A tradition over 3,000 years old that unites body, soul, and cosmos in a single sacred act of healing.

"The body remembers what the mind wants to forget. Healing begins when both learn to speak the same language."

A wisdom that
transcends time

Mayan healing is not an alternative therapy. It is a millennia-old system of knowledge born in the heart of Mesoamerica, where nature, spirit, and the human body were understood as a single living reality.

01

Ancient Origins

The Maya developed their medicine over 3,000 years ago across Mexico, Guatemala, and Belize. Their shamans — the H'men — were guardians of deep knowledge about plants, energy, and the cosmos. Illness was never merely physical: it was a spiritual and emotional imbalance that needed to be addressed at its root.

02

Mayan Cosmovision

For the Maya, every human being exists in three simultaneous dimensions: the physical body, the energetic body, and the soul. Health is achieved only when all three are in harmony. Every ritual, plant, and technique serves one purpose — to restore the sacred balance lost through stress, trauma, or accumulated dense energy.

03

Values & Principles

Mayan healing is founded on respect for nature, community, and the sacred. The healer does not "cure" — they facilitate the individual's own recovery of vital force. Intention, honesty, and connection with the four elements are the central pillars. It is a medicine of love, presence, and reciprocity with the earth.

04

Why They Healed This Way

The Maya understood that physical pain is often the echo of unresolved emotional or spiritual suffering. Their techniques — abdominal massage, energy cleanses, egg and herbal rituals — were designed to release blockages at a cellular level and restore the free flow of vital energy, returning the individual to natural harmony.

"We do not come to Tulum to escape life.
We come to remember who we were before the world told us who to be."
— H'men Mayan Wisdom

Questions, before you arrive

Things visitors most often want to know before booking a session. If yours isn't here, reach out to our concierge — we reply in English.

What is Mayan healing, exactly?

It's medicine. Three thousand years old, developed by the Maya across the Yucatán, Guatemala, and Belize, and held alive by a small number of H'men — the village healers who carry the lineage. The Maya never separated the body from the soul. To them, an aching back is rarely just a back — it's a memory the body never let go of. Mayan healing works on all of it at once: physical, energetic, emotional. The tools are old and surprisingly direct: hands, herbs, copal smoke, a raw egg, the sound of a chant, the heat of a fire.

What actually happens in a Temazcal?

You walk barefoot into a low domed lodge, sit on the earth, and a shaman closes the door. Outside, volcanic stones — called abuelas, "grandmothers" — have been heating in a fire for hours. They're carried in one at a time and placed in the center pit. The shaman pours water steeped in copal, romero, and other plants; the steam fills the dome; the chants begin.

There are four "doors" — four rounds — and between each you can step out for air and water. People cry. People laugh. People remember things they haven't thought about in years. The whole thing runs about three hours, including the time before and after to dress, drink water, and come back to the world.

How long are the sessions?

Depends which one. Quick reference:

  • Sobada Maya, Clay Healing — 60 min
  • Cacao Ceremony — 75 min
  • Full Mayan Healing, Spiritual Cleansing, Couples Healing, New Baby Ceremony — 90 min
  • Temazcal — about 3 hours start to finish
  • Mayan Wedding — 1 hour for the ceremony itself

Block more time than the duration suggests — the integration afterward is where a lot of the work lands, and you'll want to drink water, sit, and breathe before driving anywhere.

Is it safe? Any reasons not to do this?

Mostly yes, with a few real exceptions.

Temazcal is intense heat. If you have heart issues, uncontrolled blood pressure, or you're in your first trimester of pregnancy, sit this one out and pick a different therapy. Tell us at booking — we'll find something that works.

Sobada Maya is an abdominal massage. If you're pregnant, recently had pelvic surgery, or have an IUD complication, let your healer know first.

For everything else, the work is non-invasive and gentle. Mayan healing is complementary care — it pairs well with therapy, with medical treatment, with whatever else you're doing for your wellbeing. It does not replace any of those.

Will the language be a problem? I only speak English.

No. Our concierge handles everything in English — booking, intake, the preparation guide we send you, answering your questions before and after.

During ceremonies, the chants and prayers are in Mayan or Spanish. That's the lineage; we don't translate them in real time because the sound is the medicine. But your guide will tell you what's about to happen before each step, and we'll walk through what it meant when you're done.

What do I wear, what do I bring?

Loose. Comfortable. Natural fibers if you have them — linen, cotton, anything that breathes. Tulum is hot.

For Temazcal: a swimsuit you don't mind sweating through, a towel, a full change of clothes for after, and a refillable water bottle. Skip the makeup that day.

For everything else: just yourself. Eat something light a couple hours before — not a feast, not nothing. Stay hydrated. Skip alcohol the night before; your body will move things differently if it's not metabolizing wine.

We send a full prep sheet over WhatsApp once you've booked.

Is this a religion? I have my own faith.

No, and you don't have to leave it at the door.

Mayan medicine is spiritual but not religious. It doesn't ask you to believe in anything. It honors the four elements — fire, water, earth, air — the ancestors, the sun, the moon, the corn. People come to us as Catholics, Buddhists, atheists, Jewish, Muslim, agnostic, everything. The work meets you where you are.

Where do the sessions actually take place?

Tulum, but the exact spot depends on the ceremony.

Some happen at Abuelo Antonio's Rancho-Sanctuary — a private compound in the jungle outside town that he built and uses for the deeper rituals like Pudzyáh. Cacao ceremonies and Sobada sessions often happen at quieter, more intimate locations closer to the town center. Temazcal is built and lit at a permanent ceremonial site.

We confirm the address and a pin on Google Maps the day before your session, and we'll send transport guidance if you need it. Most locations are 10–25 minutes from Tulum centro by taxi.

How do I book? What if I need to change the date?

The contact form on this page is the fastest way. Tell us your dates, what you're hoping to heal, and which therapy is calling you (or just say "I'm not sure" — we'll suggest one). Our concierge usually replies within a few hours.

Cancellation: Your deposit is non-refundable. Everything beyond the deposit can be rescheduled or refunded — just give us as much notice as you can so the healer's time can go to someone else.
